UAE Insurance Authority - Insurance coverage for viruses and communicable diseases is covered

Description

  • The Insurance Authority confirmed that health insurance policies of all kinds cover communicable and infectious diseases and viruses unless an exception is provided for otherwise.
  • The commission clarified that the basic health insurance policy usually excludes epidemics, provided that it is officially announced that the sickness caused by any disease that is valid or contagious constitutes a pandemic.
  • In the event that no official announcement is issued by the competent authorities in the country regarding the contagious disease such as "Corona virus" constitutes a pandemic, the insurance companies remain responsible for providing the necessary insurance cover for the health care services needed for the people included in the health insurance policies.

Impact

Insurance Authority is the Federal Insurance regulator. Hence, no impact on DFSA Authorised firms.
